    I Hear
One day at the age of four (2008), my daughter improvised a poem titled “I hear the flowers blooming, blooming, blooming” and I heard her read it several times in different places without any variation. I was so amazed at the beauty of this poem from the structure to the content, which goes beyond what words can say, that I could no longer suppress my eagerness to set it to music for chorus when commissioned by Taibei Chamber Singers. I was trying to make it a combination of verse and music so that it can be sung far and wide, even though I have composed a piece of orchestral music titled “An Ear to Flowers” also inspired by this poem.
For the sake of music-setting, I lengthened the poem on the basis of its original structure by adding a few more lines about the beauty of nature and my wife put the lengthened version into English. I hope this English version with music will travel farther and wider carrying my whole family’s love for the world, nature and life.
