Voetmann, Veronika Krøll: Changing Elements

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

Changing Elements conveys the story of todays climactic changes. The first movement captures a delicate summer landscape and a playful and seemingly harmless summer wind. The winds dry warmth, however, creates a parched, arid landscape: a dangerous kindling. A flame catches and a forest fire, hesitating at first, erupts in the second movement. Small sparks that quickly die out give way to a formidable firey front that seems to withdraw but then returns with renewed vigour. Rain drops interrupt the fire, now smoldering and petering out. The drops douse the last of the flames. A sudden and intense rain follows, reaching an immediate climax, and then disappearing as quickly as it came. The last movement is the now empty space, burnt and washed away, where only echoes remain - the echoes of what used to be. With uncertainty it tries to develop something new, but maybe this was simply the end...
