Harris, Lillie: Remiscipate

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

The title, ‘remiscipate’, is an amalgamation of two words: ‘reminisce’ and ‘dissipate’, as the piece represents literal swirling dust clouds, an ephemeral cloud of memories, and the nature of memory. It was inspired by the demolition of the enormous Red Road tower blocks in Glasgow. Not only was there the impressive sound of the explosion and the buildings’ collapse, and the visual impact of the outburst and rapid fall of so much material, but there was also an atmosphere amongst the crowds gathered to watch: excitement, trepidation, shock, but also sadness and loss - especially for those who had once made a home there, who watched and remembered a multitude of moments. Every onlooker watched from a different angle, and had a different perspective and relationship with the buildings; if all the different memories and thoughts from those onlookers were gathered together, I think they would look like that dust cloud.
