Gimon, Katerina: Fire

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

Fire is an energetic, rhythmic piece incorporating vocal percussion, body percussion, nasal singing, and other colourful effects to depict the energy, mystery, and drive of fire in all its varied forms. The piece includes no actual text, rather is set on nonsense syllables evocative of the vigour of fire. A short poem precedes the piece which gives a fuller sense of the character that the piece aims to achieve. Fire is the third movement in a larger set of SATB choral works called “Elements” which abstractly depict the four classical elements and explore the wide range of capabilities of the human voice. The set was composed in 2013 and premiered in March 2014 by Laurier Singers Chamber Choir in Waterloo, Ontario under Lee Willingham.
