Biography

Andriy Merkhel (b. 1986) graduated the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music as a composer (Yevh. Stankovych’s class) in 2012. The same year he entered the postgraduate courese of the Academy (2012-2015). He is an author of chamber, symphonic and stage music pieces.
Andriy Merkhel was a participant of festivals „Young Euro Classic”, „Randspiele” (Berlin), „Kyiv Music Fest”, „GogolFest” (Kyiv), „Two Days and Two Nights of New Music” (Odessa), „Contrasts” (Lviv), „Malta Festival Poznań” (Poznan), „From the Avant-Garde to the Present Day” (Saint Petersburg), and others; participant of program „Gaude Polonia” (Poland).
His music was performed by ensembles „Ricochet”, „Molot Ensemble”, „Ensemble Nostri Temporis”, „Senza Sforzando”, „Duo Sonoro”, "Kyiv Camerata", State orchestra of popular and symphonic music, Symphonic orchestra of Tchaikovsky National Academy and different soloists.
He is the co-founder and artistic director of the „Sed Contra Ensemble”; co-founder and curator of the Laboratory of Music and Theater „Sound. Voice. Silence”.
Andriy Merkhel’s practical activity deals with investigative and therapeutic functions of creative process. Besides the musical research as such, he works in area of cross-disciplinary and communicative forms of art.
