Biography

Described as ‘inventive’ (The Financial Times) and ‘hip and edgy’ (The Independent) Michael Betteridge is a composer with an interest in creating work that challenges and inspires audiences and performers alike. His work has been performed by and commissioned by London Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, soprano Sarah Leonard, Violinist Nicola Benedetti, amongst others, as well as having been performed on BBC Radio 3 and 4. Recent large works include: the Anglo-Icelandic Twitter opera #echochamber that premiered in Reykjavik in May 2018 before embarking on a UK tour; a 15 minute collection of new choral songs for male voices and piano with words by poet Andrew McMillan; and a 50 minute song cycle for young voices titled Do you see? Do your hear? commissioned by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG) alongside the Royal Society of the Arts.
