Shanghai New Music Week founded in 2008, Shanghai New Music Week is an annual music event hosted by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, committed to the promotion and presentation of new music in China and the sharing of the great fruit of contemporary human music creation and performance with the common theme of “No Today, No Future”.
Held annually in late September, Shanghai Ne Music lasts six days with twelve concerts and six seminars and lectures spanning different aspects of music from orchestral music, chamber music, traditional music to lectures by resident composers, international composition master classes and music criticism. Currently, we have proudly as many as over 8,000 attendances annually. While the attendances at daytime lectures and performances are mainly teachers and students from conservatories of music home and abroad, the evening performances are open to the public.
As an international contemporary music event, Shanghai New Music Week features four worldly renowned orchestras and ensembles in residence and three internationally celebrated composers in residence as well as their portrait concerts besides collaborations with orchestras and Chinese traditional orchestras in China. In an effort to achieve high quality, fine taste, originality, special portraits, diversity, professionalism, internationalization and keeping up with the times, Shanghai New Music week has been regarded as one of the high-rank festivals in the world.
