News from JFC, season 2006-07 (extracts)

Projects to support JFC members ;
1. Publishing of scores : JFC publishes annually about 20-25 scores of compositions by members including a selected orchestra piece which is financially supported by The Suntory Music Foundation. Two concerts by the published compositions will be organized by the JFC on February 15 and 16th, 2007 in Tokyo

2. Publishing of CD : JFC annually publishes a CD which includes 4-5 compositions by JFC members.

3. Concert ‘’ Independent exhibition ‘’: JFC annually organizes concerts for JFC members. 21 members’ compositions including many world premieres will be performed on January 6 and 7th, 2007 at Tokyo Opera City recital hall.

4. International exchanges ; Sending scores published by JFC to foreign countries including libraries and associations of music or composers, Delegate of JFC members including a composer from young generation to ACL (The Asian Composers league) Festival in New Zealand from February 8th to 15th, 2007, Selecting scores for ISCM in November, 2007 in Hong Kong and an international symposium for Japanese and Greek contemporary music on December 12, 2006 at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan small hall.
Competition
The 4th JFC Composition Awards for chamber orchestra
After first selection, five finalists have been nominated and the selected
compositions will be performed in the final public concert by
The New Japan Philharmonic conducted by Naohiro Totsuka on March 26th, 2007
at Toppan Hall in Tokyo.
The jury : Michio Kitazume (the chairman), Richard Tsang (ISCM president)
and Keiko Harada(composer)
The award will be given to one selected composer. JFC offers 300.000JP Yen to
the selected composer and the composition will be published by JFC.

The structure of JFC
JFC votes every three years for selecting officials from the members.
New executives from 2006 consist of Shigeaki Saegusa (president), Akira Nishimura
and Reijiro Koroku (vice president),Toshiro Saruya (exective senator)and sixteen senators. The Japan Federation of Composers has up today 550 members.
