Notes

  • Program notes:

This piece consists of two parts which contrast vividly. The percussion solo part covers a wide range of dynamics, timbres, and modes. As the piece progresses, the solo part alternately cooperates and competes with the orchestra, striving to meld the grand, the delicate, and the fantastic into a unified whole.
At twilight before the cliffs, the sun falls into a mountain gorge. Bison and wolves call towards the distant sea, the sounds of buckshot linger around the water, and the shimmering light of gasoline quivers in the swirling sky. At noon, the devastated ones and the empty souls walk out of the ground. Their crushed bones dye the blazing plain white, their sharp and impulsive scream smash the wilderness, offending virtue. At night, the stars come out: the thoughts of God. All is clear and bright. When the night fog thins, the fearless mast appears among the surging waves. High in the sky, the dawn tells us that humankind, despite its agonies, will walk towards the light.
