Notes

  • Program notes:

Sussurri dell'Ombra was commissioned by the Royal Flemish Philharmonic as a “companion” piece to Stravinsky's Symphonies of Winds. For that reason it uses the same instrumentation of only winds and no percussion.
Not only in the title (where the “Ombra” of course is the shadow of Stravinsky) but also in the material the master is present. The piece starts with rustling, shadowy sounds out of which sounds arise. These are based on the most important chord of his Symphonies. This chord never is clearly recognizable (except of one quotation) but is spiced with a spectral flavour of overtones and orchestrated bell sounds.
