Notes

  • Program notes:

I understand the role of memory as a prime element for regulating the degree of presence of the musical ideas and thus to describe the unitary sense and cohesion between the ideas of a musical discourse, which is characterized by instability and inner dynamism (inner rhythm) that I attribute to my conception of sound. This work develops a conception of sound based on a balance between two qualities that I consider irreplaceable to observe, apprehend and experience the matter: the “existence” and “essence”. The balance results in an unstable, alterable, -almost ephemeral- relationship between the "determinant" (existence) and "determined" (essence) of matter.

Erinnerungs.vermögen describes how this instability behaves timbrical and rhythmically and how it influences the concepts of order, transience, nature of the materials and finally the degree of presence of the musical ideas. The "memory" –Erinnerungsvermögen- acts as a regulator of this presence helping to generate a discourse which tends into an unitary sense despite the complex nature of the materials and the different qualities each musical idea.
