Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

    rainbow walk for brass quintet

    the piece is based on idea of “distortion” of familiar fanfare sound usually associated with the brass instruments: imposing extremely fast tempo fanfare music material becomes rather mechanical in atmosphere and alienate from the conventional model;
    one of the most important characteristics of the piece is its economy in terms of using musical material;
    the title rainbow walk is connected with an arch form in the formal development of the piece, where the beginning and the ending point are at the same level;

    composed: 2004
    first performance: Brass Spectacular, Glasgow / Guildhall Brass Quintet, April 2005
    revised: 2008
    duration: 6 minuts
