Notes

  • Program notes:

Saxophone quartet Cantus was composed as a tribute to italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da
Palestrina. The title of the piece is used in the sense of cantus firmus. However, The “cantus” is not,
in this case, a melodic line of the polyphony, but a sequence of dissonant chords of three notes,
taken textually from Palestrina's music. This dissonances appear all over the piece, and structure
their different parts. Melodic profiles of some Palestrina's works are also used, sometimes without
    being recognizable.
