Mălăncioiu, Gabriel: Hommage a Papaji

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

This piece is a tribute to one of the important mystics from the end of the XXth
century, the Indian Hariwansh Lal Poonja, called Papaji by his disciples. Each of his
discourses began with the invocation “Let there be Peace and Love among all
Beings of the Universe”, this text being used at the end of the work. The melodic
structures of the piece are using predominantly the vocalization, the only words
used being the sacred sound of “Aum”, and the word “Shanti”, meaning “Peace”.
The contrasting material, which gives the rhythmic character of the work, uses an
invented language, with rhythmic patterns characteristic to Indian music. The two
elements, the melodic and the rhythmic ones, are thought to be complementary,
their balance leading to a dynamic equilibrium, of which Papaji is often reffering
    to.

  • Technical specs:

The use of Tam-Tams in the piece is optional.
