La Berge, Anne: Away

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

In the early months of 2008 a person very dear to me moved to another country and within a short time thereafter I attended three funerals. This piece expresses a few of my impressions when contemplating the various experiences of separation that were deepened in those few months.
Away is a Max patch originally composed as a guided improvisation for trumpetist Stephen Altoft. The flute version uses a 19_tone tempered scale based on F and plays sine tones in a controlled random envi- ronment. The timing of the piece and various nuances are left up to the performer.
I would like to express my gratitude to Stephen Altoft for commissioning this work and to my Max coach Luc van Weelden.
