Hauksson, Thorsteinn: String Quartet One

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

String Quartet One was written in Berlin, revised in Strasbourg and premiered in the Nordic House in Reykjavik. These three diverse cities that I have had the privilege of calling my home have indeed been a combining factor in influencing the writing of this work, and the incredible surrounding natural beauty that these places have in common. This is perhaps reflected in the sudden surge of playfulness encompassed by darker elements pulsating in String Quartet One - as they do in the cities, most notably in Berlin and its past. Funding was provided by the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.
