Notes

  • Program notes:

The work forms a part of the Precious Metals cycle, written for Ensemble Klang and released by them as an album in 2016. In this set of works distorted trombones and stuttering guitars lead you through an exploration of texture and resonance. The works, imagined as plates - of different metals, age and corrosion - trace fluctuations in colour and grain, small impurities within each solid structure. Steel Wounds & Beaten Sounds blends Just Intonation chorales with sounds from 1980s popular music, electronic drumpads and layers of guitar delays.

  • Technical specs:

Fully amplified sextet: 2 saxes, trombone, keyboard, electric guitar and percussion (drumpads), full details in the introductory pages of the score.
