Programme note Quiet arcs / Pulsating surfaces Quiet arcs / Pulsating surfaces is about the northern lights phenomenon and received first prize in the Uppsala Composition Competition 2012. I was fascinated by the visual but also the scientific aspects of the northern lights, why it arises, in what forms and colors they appear and how they are renamed according to these parameters. "Quiet arcs" and "Pulsating surfaces" are two different descriptions of the northern lights. I built the material based on both a tonal, and rhythmic aspect and these were arranged into various schemes and patterns that eventually built the piece a kind of sounding northern lights if you like.
