    TRAFFICKING
    She could be your Daughter

for flute, clarinet, violin, viola, cello, piano (+ electronics claviers) and percussion

Twenty years ago, I found a book in a little Swedish shop; the title in French was” La Dérobade”. I was not able to put it down, I read it all night long feeling increasingly sorry for the author, Jeanne Cordelier a woman of my age, who had been forced into prostitution.

At the same time, I felt angry against the clients but also against the laws that make it legal for people to buy sex from prostitutes and at same time criminalize them.

You should read this book to get a glimpse of the sort of life these women live, the disgust they feel for their clients and the treatment they suffer in the hands of their pimps.

” The world oldest profession” is a hell for those who practice it.

And today the problem is getting bigger, international gangs traffic young girls from poorer countries into richer ones, where they can’t speak the language. It is a modern-day form of slavery that they have very little chance of escaping.

I don’t have any illusions; this piece will not change the situation but it is a way of not completely ignoring the suffering around us and of not accepting the unacceptable.

Technically, the piece is based on the spectral analysis of some percussion sounds and a long and patient process to map the music with the feelings and actions of the women, the pimps, and the clients.
