Notes

  • Program notes:

Uta’s Escape was commissioned in 2016 by Vancouver’s elite vocal ensemble musica intima to celebrate International Women’s Day. The text was created from a short story written by Canadian writer Maria Reva. Using careful extraction and repetition I created a condensed version of her dark and humorous story: members of a synchronized swimming team throw their flyer into the air during a gruelling day of practice, and she disappears. Despite an extensive search, no trace of her is ever found.

  • Technical specs:

If accepted to ISCM2019, Jennifer Butler will re-orchestrate for early violin.
