    STULTIFERA NAVIS
    For String Quartet (2005)
The allegory of the Ship of Fools, suggesting in the Renaissance the parody of a world
turning upside-down, becomes the image of a navigation, taking its departure beyond the
    apparent horizons.
Within this image, evolves the conception of my string quartet: state of turbulence and
visionary architecture, tracery of musical spaces, whose idea generated in my mind after
    reading some verses of Hölderlin.
The piece is subdivided into two sections, contrasting for their length and character, the
second appearing as the “resolution” of the first.
Written in 2005 for the Arditti String Quartet.
