Broberg, Kirsten: Color and Texture

Basic information

Notes

  • Program notes:

“Creativity is intelligence having fun (Albert Einstein)." For this piece, I mapped coloristic, textural and proportional elements of various paintings into sound. Inspired by Jackson Pollack’s paintings, “Controlled Chaos” is composed of splatters of notes, drips, specks and splashes of color creating a dense texture. “Primary Colors 1 and 2” are based on paintings by Piet Mondrian. “Fields of Color” spaciously reflects the color field paintings of Mark Rothko and “Spiraling” spirals outward from the center like as painting by Chris Duncan. “Monochrome in Ultraviolet” is inspired by Yves Klein’s work and “Curved Lines” sonifies a painting by Morris Lewis.
