Notes

  • Program notes:

In “Xare” for txistu soloist and ensemble, I tried to integrate the two particular and identifying sounds of the instrument within the sound mass of the ensemble. The txistu player usually plays two instruments at the same time. With one hand a three-‐hole flute, with sharp and bright sounds and with the other hand a drum or a small percussion instrument. Integrating the two sounds in the rest of the group is the main aim of this work. For this I use diferent vibratos and traditional melodic motives usuals in the txistu, alternating with melodic material coming from the “Apple dances” from the valley of Baztan in Navarra. "Xare" means “net” in Basque, besides being the name of the ensemble that premiered the work and to which it is dedicated, it refers to the small movements generated by each instrument of the ensemble to create a joint network, creating a kind of spider web.
