Notes

  • Program notes:

From a compositional view Subarctic… is built around a conceptual counterpoint. Different sound layers, differential rhythm and dynamics forms one of these contrapuntal layers. Graphical notation/improvisation and spatial perspectives another. From a more philosophical view the composition has its basis in the importance of place for us as humans and how different environments affect our creating of roots, in extension what defines our personalities. Through the graphically notated parts some of the predestined compositional patterns are released and another subject affects the interpretation, which creates an inter-subjective counterpoint.
