Biography

Hang ZOU was born in Hunan, China. He followed the instruction of his father Professor Shuliang ZOU to Chinese traditional folk music at the early age. Hang ZOU began to study composition in 1990, and he got the entrance into the Central Conservatory of Music in Composition Department under the guidance of Professor Xiaogang YE. In 2001, he obtained his Master Degree and stayed there serving as a teacher till now.

As one of the Chinese famous composers, Hang ZOU was honored:

The International Gaudeamus prize for composition;

The Best Music for dance drama music of the 5th National Water Lily Prize Dancing Competition of China;

The Golden Bell prize of China Music (as composer and lyricist) (2001);

The Gold prize of the 9th Guangdong Art Festival;

The Excellent Works award in the 6th Music Contribution Competition of Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.

As one of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Game Opening Ceremony’s composers, Hang ZOU’s works were premiered in Beijing Modern Festival, Gaudeamus Music Week, John F. Kennedy Arts Center, New Zealand Festival, Northern Sea Jazz Festival, Silk Road Plan of YoYo Ma and etc. His works were premiered more than 30 countries such as Asia, America, Europe, Oceania.
