Yip, Ho-kwen Austin - M - Hong Kong 




Born in Hong Kong, Austin Yip’s works have been performed worldwide. Places like the United States, Argentina, Scotland, Italy, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia have seen traces of his performance records. His musical creations are very diverse, ranging from orchestral piece to electroacoustic works, from Western orchestral to folk instruments. All the above shows his knowledge and creativity upon different styles of music.

Yip has participated in numerous music festivals, including ISCM and Asian Composers League Festival, in which he has worked closely with many world- renowned performers and ensembles. He has also received commissions from worldwide. Yip obtained his PhD and Master of Philosophy degrees at the University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Chan. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Music) degree from the University of California, Berkeley with a “high distinction in general scholarship”.
Yip’s works are published by BabelScores, Ablaze Records and Hong Kong Composers Guild. He is the founder of doubledeck factory, and is currently the assistant conductor of the Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra. He has taught at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Institute of Education. As a music critic, his writings have been published on Hong Kong Economic Times, Ta Kung Po and IATC (International Association of Theatre Critics (Hong Kong)). He is currently a lecturer at the Hong Kong Baptist University.
