Biography

Born in 1978, Austrian-Czech composer, theatre artist and chansonnier Šimon Voseček studied composition at the Prague Conservatory and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Ranging from chamber music to opera, Šimon’s compositions have been performed across Europe and beyond, including the USA, Japan, and the UK.

In 2008, Šimon was awarded with the Upcoming Artist Award of the Republic Austria for his first full-length opera, Biedermann und die Brandstifter (2005-2007), based on Max Frisch’s 1958 play. The work was premièred in Vienna in September 2013, in 2014 it was performed in Bolzano, Italy, in 2015 at Sadler’s Wells in London and in 2017 in Bremerhaven, Germany.

In 2015, Šimon was awarded his second state scholarship for composition for his second full-length opera, Hybris.

In April 2019, his new opera „Menschenfresser“ with a libretto by the franch author Yann Verburgh, will be premièred in Avignon, France.
