Biography

Jasper Vanpaemel (b. 1986) was already at an early age influenced by a wide variety of musical genres. He studied piano, violin and percussion at the Conservatory of Leuven, Belgium. From 2004 to 2013 he studied piano & composition with Jan Michiels & Franklin Gyselinck at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. In 2009 Jasper studied electronic music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, with internationally renowned experts such as Richard Barrett, Paul Berg and Kees Tazelaar. He learned to improvise and interact with audio engines and the art of algorithmic composition.

Jasper has composed several works and arrangements, including Pinatubo and Praia Deserta?. The Spectra Ensemble created one of his latest works, Krakatoa Variations at the TRANSIT-festival in Leuven, October 2011.

As performing musician Jasper is active in various fields. He has an electronic duo with Jasper Braet (J&J). He is also a regular member of Helektron, an ensemble that focuses on the relationship between sound and image. He played already in many concert halls around Europe. He created piano compositions by Luc Döbereiner and Lula Romero. He has also been involved in the PhD-defenses of Peter Swinnen and Jan Michiels, as an improviser and electronic musician.
