Biography

Born in Sydney 1980. Peter Urquhart started playing violin at the age of 4 with Mrs Judy Long. At the age of 14 Urquhart started High school studies at the Sydney Conservatorium High School participating in Violin studies under Ms Phillippa Paige and Composition Studies under Dr Trevor Pearce.
During his teenage years Urquhart played violin in the SBS Youth Orchestra under the guidance of Mr Matthew Krel and toured various European Capitals in 1995 and 1997
In 1996 Urquhart also participated in violin studies at the Darius Milhaud Conservatoire in Aix.en.Provence, France.
After leaving High School Urquhart started composing for chamber music, and solo instrumental music gaining skills as an improviser and session musician for recording labels such as Sony music and Blind Faith Records.
Urquhart is a co- founder of the Mid Season Recital group that fosters encouragement and performance of contemporary Australian Music in the Sydney region since 2012.
Urquhart is currently in his third year, completing a research masters degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the supervision of Mr Michael Smetanin and Professor Matthew Hindson.
In 2014 Urquhart spent 4 weeks in Visby, Sweden in residency at the International Centre for Composers. It was here Urquhart composed 6 works for Poetry, Choreography and Composition.
Urquhart is currently in collaboration with Australian poets Ms Alison Marshall and Mr Charles Freyberg.
