Biography

David Sontòn Caflisch composer/violinist

He was born in 1974 in Basel. Already in young age he tried first composition steps with performances with his school class. Only after the violin studies with Michael Gebauer (Zurich), Ingolf Turban (Stuttgart) and Hans Heinz Schneeberger (Basel) he decided to continue his composing work studiing with Isabel Mundry in Zurich.

As violinist and director of the Ensemble ö! he's dedicating the most of work in contemporary music, performing and concepting new concert forms.

As composer, his most important inspiration is architecture. His studies and commun works with Peter Zumthor had a big influence on his thinking of music composing. "Music and architecture are almost the same: both of them divide space, time space ore real space. And to get to a harmonic result, they both use simple and fundamental forms of mathematics."

David Sontòn Caflisch is member of the Ensemble ö! in Chur, Ensemble Montaigne in Luzern, the basel sinfonietta and the orchestra Anima Eterna Brugge, and substitute in the Ensemble Phoenix Basel and Collegium Novum Zürich. He is winner of several prizes in switzerland.
