Biography

Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir is an Icelandic composer/sound artist based in Oakland, CA. While working in many mediums she discerns her art to be an orchestration of systems, an attempt to recreate perceived metaphysical structures that have a basis in empirical observations on relationships and causalities. Her work has been performed widely by groups such as the Oslo Philharmonic (NO), International Contemporary Ensemble ICE (US), Iceland Symphony Orchestra (IS) and Scenatet (DK). As a performer she has a diverse background, having toured and recorded with acts like Sigur Rós and Björk as well as being a performer of new music. She holds a M.A. degree in composition from Mills College where she studied with Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins, Pauline Oliveros and Roscoe Mitchell, in addition to a B.A. in new media composition and horn performance from Iceland Academy of the Arts.
