Biography

He studied the piano with Kazimierz Gierżod and composition with Włodzimierz Kotoński at the Music Academy in Warsaw. He also participated in many composition workshops, including with Hanna Kulenty, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Michael Nyman, Louis Andriessen, and Tristan Murail, as well as contemporary music festivals such as ISCM World Music Days, Musica Polonica Nova, Warsaw Autumn, and Poznań Music Spring. He has held scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the City of Warsaw, and Society of Authors – ZAiKS.
As a member of the MM Group, he has worked at the intersection of music and visual arts. He has cooperated notably with Eugeniusz Rudnik, Fryderyk Rzewski, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Orkest de ereprijs, the Viktor Lois/Yin Peet duo, Azorro Group, Bang on a Can, and Beijing’s Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra. He has authored the bugle-call of Rzeszów, as well as music for animated films (notably by Jan Lenica, Daniel Szczechura, Marcin Giżycki, Agnieszka Skolik, and Tomasz Kozak), theatre, and computer games. He has a long-standing partnership with the Children’s Arts Centre in Poznań, for which he has composed over a dozen works, often actively involving the audience.
