Biography

Emma Shifrin was born in Moscow; there she began her musical studies. In 1987 she moved to Israel. Graduated from the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and Dance where she studied at Prof. Marc Kopitman's class (B.Mus – 1992, Artist Diploma – 1994). She Graduated with Ph.D. in composition from the Department of Music of the Bar-Ilan University (2004). Now Emma is teaching Harmony and other Music Theory disciplines in the Levinsky College of Education. Emma Shifrin wrote a number of works, among them orchestral pieces and a large amount of works for different chamber ensembles, including ensembles of ancient and ethnic instruments and also methodical compositions. Her works were performed in Israel, USA, Italy, Ukraine and Romania on different occasions. In 1994 she was awarded with the stipend of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. In 2002 she won the Liberson Composition Contest Prize of the Israeli Composers League for her piece "Plays for Two" for Violin and Piano.
