Biography

Charlotte Seither (* 1965 in Landau/Germany) studied composition, piano and musicology in Hannover and Berlin. In 1998 she received her PhD with a study about Luciano Berio. She frequently is a member of international composition juries and committees. Regularly she is guest at international festivals like Wien Modern, Gaudeamus Amsterdam, Warsaw Generation Festival oder New Music Indaba Bloemfontein / South Africa. As an Artist Resident she has lived and worked at the Cité des Arts Paris, in the Deutsches Studienzentrum Venedig, Advances Study Center Bogliasco / Italy, Villa Aurora Los Angeles or in the Jozi Art Lab Johannesburg. In 2009 she received the Rome Prize for the German Academy Villa Massimo in Rome and spent a year in Italy. She was honoured by several prizes, like the 1st Prize in the International Composition Competition “Prague Spring” or the Ernst von Siemens Foerderpreis. In 2010 Charlotte Seither was awarded with the Praetorius Musikpreis of Lower Saxony. In August 2013 her orchestra piece Language of Leaving had its World Premiere with the BBC Symphony Orchestra London at the BBC Proms. In 2014 she was the winner of the Deutscher Musikautorenpreis.
