Scott, Douglas - M - South Africa

Biography

As a composer, Douglas Scott considers himself open to all influences. He mostly writes in a quasi-autobiographical manner, finding inspiration from the things in everyday experience. In this sense he considers himself an African composer, first and foremost. He counts as teachers Stefans Grové and Michael Blake, while his classical influences are typically from the lesser canon, such as Telemann, Reger and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. His method often involves recursive procedures and he delights in finding new forms of distorting simple repetition.
