Biography

Filip Rathé (°1966) graduated in piano and conducting and obtained a Master Degree of Musicology. He teaches at the School of Arts Ghent.

He is artistic director and conductor of SPECTRA, an ensemble for contemporary music that premiered over 150 new compositions in Europe and South-America. As guest conductor he appeared with the Brussels Philharmonic, the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, the Flemish Radio Choir and ensemble as I Solisti del Vento, Hermes Ensemble and Musiques Nouvelles.

Rathé is currently working on three cycles: ‘No marmore de tua bunda’, madrigals for the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart on poetry by Carlos Drummond de Andrade; ‘Avec Diamants Extrêmes’, for ensemble, based on Paul Valéry; and ‘Diván del Tamarit’, setting to music Federico García Lorca’s collection of poems, for voices and mixed ensemble (Western/Arab).

His music is performed a.o. by ASKO (N), Exaudi (GB), Kremerata Baltica (LT), Ukho Ensemble (UKR) and the Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart (D).
