Biography

Gerard Power holds an M.Litt in composition from Trinity College
Dublin and a D.Phil in composition from the University of York. Awards
include first prize in the Arklow Music Composers Competition, the Vinson
Award, a doctoral studentship from the University of York, a composers'
postgraduate study award from the Arts Council / An Comhairle Ealaíon, and
an artist’s bursary, also from the Arts Council / An Comhairle Ealaíon. Gerard
was an SPNM shortlisted composer from 2006-9. His compositional output to
date includes orchestral, chamber, instrumental and choral works. His
orchestral work Cyclopsleep was performed at the ISCM World Music Days in
Hong Kong and his Wind Quintet was performed at the ISCM World Music
Days in Slovenia. In 2011, his tuba quartet Allusion was performed at the
ISCM World Music Days in Croatia.
