Biography

František Poul studied at the Conservatory in Bratislava between 1964 and 1968 (trombone with Jaroslav Beneš, composition with Juraj Pospíšil). From 1968 to 1970 he attended several semesters at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland (composition with G. Benett). In 1970 he started to study at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (composition with Dezider Kardoš), finishing in 1976. Since then he’s been music director at Slovak Radio in Bratislava (until now) and at the OPUS Publishing House (1987–1990). He was an editor of the department for symphonic, chamber and opera music of the Slovak Radio (1990–1991), head of the Music ensembles section of the Slovak Radio (1991–1997) and head of the Major music genres department of the Slovak Radio (1997–2000). Since 2000 he’s been a pedagogue of the Conservatory in Bratislava (composition, instrumentation, music direction) and since 2006 lectures at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (music direction, music dramaturgy, music theory for the sound masters).
