PINQUINS, Trio - F - Norway 

 
 

 

Biography

Pinquins is a percussion trio that plays contemporary music. The trio was established in 2008, and is based on Oslo, Norway. The members of the trio are Sigrun Rogstad Gomnæs, Johanne Byhring and Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen.

Pinquins has produced and presented a number of concerts in addition to appearances at The Ultima Oslo Contemporary Festival, The Bergen International Festival, The Øya Festival, The THEMUS Festival (Gothenburg), The BrassWind Festival and collaborations with Ny Musikk (Norwegian section of the ISCM).

Pinquins has collaborated with Kroumata, Sisu, Håkon Stene, Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen, Brandt Brauer Frick, Stefan Goldmann, Yumi Murakami and Duo En er 1.

With the support of The Department of Foreign Affairs and The Fund for Performing Arts, Pinquins toured Australia in early 2012, and parts of Europe in November 2013. Pinquins also tours regularly as part of The Norwegian Concert Institute's school program.

Pinquins has collaborated with numerous composers and has commissioned new works by Erik S. Dæhlin, Jan Martin Smørdal, Therese Birkelund Ulvo, Stine Sørlie, Anthony Pateras, Kjell Samkopf, Eyvind Guldbrandsen, Jon Halvor Bjørnseth and Jack White. They are curently working together with Brice Catherin, Kari Beate Tandberg and Henrik Hellstenius.

In conduction with the production of concerts, Pinquins has received funding from The Fund for Performing Arts, Kulturetaten in Oslo, The Musicians ́ Union of Norway, Frifond, The Norwegian Arts Council and Oslo Musikkråd.
Since 2015 Pinquins is a part of the collaboration Moving Classics – Network for new music, that is partly funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Sigrun Rogstad Gomnæs (1978)

Sigrun studied in Oslo and Brussels, and finished her master's degree in percussion and chamber music in 2005. She works as a freelance musician in Oslo, and plays regularly with all the main orchestras in Norway. She also often plays with new music ensembles such as Asamisimasa, Ensemble neoN and Oslo Sinfonietta.
She founded Pinquins in 2008 together with Wendy Greenberg and Ane Marthe Holen.

Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen (1983)

Ane Marthe studied in Oslo and Brussels, and finished her master's degree in percussion in 2009. She works as a freelance musician in Oslo, and her main focus is contemporary music. She plays with Ensemble neoN, neoN-trio and Phaedra in addition to Pinquins. She also plays with ensembles and orchestras such as Oslo Sinfonietta, Bodø Sinfonietta, and the Norwegian Opera Orchestra.

She founded Pinquins in 2008 together with Wendy Greenberg and Sigrun Gomnæs.

Johanne Byring (1988)

Johanne finished her bachelor degree in 2012 after studying in Oslo and Lübeck. She will finish her master's degree in percussion by spring 2015. Besides her studies she works as a freelancer in Oslo, and has played in ensembles such as Oslo Sinfonietta and The Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

She started playing with Pinquins in August 2012, when she replaced Wendy Greenberg as a playing member of the trio.
