Biography

Andras Olsen started playing the trombone at the age of 13. Andras has studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus (1997-2000), Royal Academy of music in London (2000-2002) and at the Royal Academy of music in Copenhagen (2003-2006)
.
Today Andras works as a trombone player all over Europe. Andras’ biggest interest is contemporary music. This is one of the reasons why he is a member of three leading contemporary ensembles in Denmark and Faroe Islands; Athelas Sinfonietta, Scenatet and Aldubáran.

Andras has worked with a lot of composers and has had many pieces written especially for him. One of the biggest collaboration is with the Faroese composers Tróndur B. Hansen and Atli K. Petersen.

Andras has written and arranged music since 2004. The inspiration to Andras’ music comes from his close collaboration with ensembles and musicians. He likes to experience with possibilities of the instrument and the musicians, which sometimes leads to ”acting” and using the space of the stage or concert hall.

Andras also has started a career as a conductor, having conducted some of the best amateur bands in Denmark and Faroe Islands. 2009-2010 he was band trainer for concord brass band and conducting most of their concerts. Concord won the danish championship for brass band 2009 and 2011. In 2011-2012 Andras was appointed band trainer in Lyngby Taarbæk Brass Band. Lyngby Taarbæk brass band rewon the danish championship in 2011.
