Biography

Jaco Meyer was born in Rustenburg and started his career as musician at high school. He went to the North-West University (NWU) to study music and after his B.Mus. degree, he continued his studies in composition and musical analysis at the NWU and received the degree M.Mus. (Composition) cum laude, as well as a special award for the best postgraduate music student at the NWU. He presented research papers at both national and international conferences, and is also an active researcher. Jaco is currently busy with Doctoral research on musical forces. As a composer, he had much success with several commissions, performances, recordings and publications of his music. His music was performed at concerts such as the South African Music Concert, Young Composers Concert and Fresh Connections Concert. He also composed theme music for a lifestyle television programme that is broadcasted on national television since 2011. Several of his compositions were performed internationally and by international artists such as the Chamber Music Company of London, the Groesbeeks Gemengd Koor (Netherlands) and Duo Montagnard (USA).
