Biography

Cândido Lima is a composer, pianist, organist, teacher, columnist, essayist and lecturer. He was the portuguese’s first composer to use, amongst other media, computers, electro-acoustics and orchestra simultaneously. He studied piano and composition at the Lisbon and Porto conservatories of music, and philosophy and humanities at the Faculty of Philosophy in Braga. He gained a PhD from the University of Paris I - Sorbonne, studied composition with Xenakis, Stockhausen, Ligeti, Pousseur and Boulez and learnt orchestra direction with Gilbert Amy and Michel Tabachnik. He studied electro-acoustics and musical computer studies at the universities of Vincennes and Panthéon-Sorbonne, IRCAM and CEMAMu.
