Biography

Cheong Li completed his BA and Master of Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, studying composition with Prof. Victor Chan. He is currently in his third year of PhD programme at the University of York, studying composition with Roger Marsh and Thomas Simaku. Besides composition, he plays erhu (chinese string instrument) and the piano, and is interested in improvisation and electroacoustic music.

His recent compositions include Responses for dizi (chinese flute) duet and chinese ensemble (commissioned by Hong Kong Arts Festival 2011); Schönbop for the crossover band for Threads Orchestra, Ripples for guitar solo performed by Stefan Östersjo in the workshop last June, and a short electroacoustic piece for joint project with Northern School of Contemporary Dance to be performed in Leeds in December 2011.
