KIM, SUE HYE - F - South Korea 




After graduating from Seoul Arts High School, Sue Hye KIM studied composition at Seoul National University. Then, she went to France to study at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris and graduated from the department of composition and orchestration summa cum laude by the unanimous decision of the jury. Afterwards, she went to the University of California, Davis and graduated with a Ph.D. in composition and theory. She was awarded honorable mentions at competitions and invited to music festivals both at home and abroad including the Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival, and the Contemporary Music Society Competition, the PAN Music Festival, the ACL Festival, the International Composition Festival in Paris, and the Pacific Rim Festival. Her music has been heard on stages in the US, France, Germany, Thailand, and Korea. Many pieces composed by Sue Hye KIM were played by gayageum player Hui Jeong KIM and performed at concerts organized by the Korea Flute Society. Recently, the orchestral piece, ‘HWA-GWANG-DONG-JIN’ for Orchestra was played by KBS Symphony Orchestra at Seoul Arts Center on the 6th ARKO Contemporary Orchestra Music Festival.
She lectured at UC Davis, Seoul National University and many others. She is an active member of the Asian Composers League, the Contemporary Music Society, SORIMOK, ISCM, the Korean Society of Women Composers, NOW, and the Composers of God. She is a lecturer at Sookmyung Women’s University, Chuang-Ang University and Gacheon University.
