Biography

MAX E. KELLER played free jazz and improvised music from 1966 to 1973. Since 1973 he has written over 160 compositions for various combinations, as well as electronic music. He has set many political texts by Erich Fried, Jürg Weibel, Franz Hohler, Kurt Marti as well as his own texts. The feature-length scenic cantata Fontamara (Ignazio Silone) was performed in Belgium, Germany, and at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. The miniature opera Egon – aus dem Leben eines Bankbeamten (Hans Suter) received 29 performances in two productions. Performances and radio broadcasts throughout Europe, in Asia, Australia, South Africa, and in North and South America. Since 1985, Max E. Keller turns up time and again as an improvising musician. He has received numerous awards. The works of Max E. Keller are represented on several LPs and CDs, e.g. the Grammont Portrait with five chamber music works and an orchestral piece (Tonhalle-Orchester under David Zinman.
