Biography

Chris Jeffery lectures composition and music technology at the University of South Africa.  As a composer, he’s interested in a wide range of music, including classical music of any era, though especially contemporary instrumental and electronic music, as well as film music.  He also has a love of popular music, particularly rock and a variety of electronic styles.  He is currently working on a doctorate in composition at UCT, including a dissertation on the history of South African film music.  His compositions from the last year include two saxophone concerto movements, a sonatina for viola and piano, a set of variations for flute and guitar, a saxophone and piano piece, a piano quintet for a film project, an orchestral suite, and songs in an electronic and rock medium.  Current composing projects include a multimedia film and music collaboration, a string quartet and a choral work.
