Hirvelä, Jouni - M - Finland 




Jouni Hirvelä (b. 1982) studied composition in Sibelius Academy with Veli-Matti Puumala and Tapio Nevanlinna. He spent a year in Berlin Universität der Künste with Elena Mendoza. He has also taken several masterclasses with Kaija Saariaho, Chaya Czernowin, Hans Thomalla, Marco Stroppa, Jukka Tiensuu, Jouni Kaipainen, Betsy Jolas and Bent Sörensen. 
His works have been performed in several concert series and festivals, such as  Klang Helsinki, SibaFest, Berlin Unerhört Musik, Nordlichter Biennale, Frum Festival, Viitasaari Time of Music and Ung Nordisk Musik.

Hirvelä has been the Young Artist of the Year in Lohisoitto Festival and Turku Music Festival. He was the finalist of Einojuhani Rautavaara Choir Composing Competition in 2012. He is also a finalist in Feeding Music Competition organized by Milano Expo 2015. Hirvelä is in charge of the Ung Nordisk Musik Festival held in Helsinki in 2015. In August 2015 he gave a profile concert in Helsinki with Uusinta Ensemble and Due Antti among others. His work has been supported by Pro Musica Foundation, Finnish Music Foundation and Kordelin Foundation. Currently he is working on a grant by Finnish Cultural Foundation.
