Biography

Name: Karl Peter Hille-Taskila
Artist name: Sid Hille.

Sid Hille, born in Germany in 1961, studied piano, jazz improvisation and composition at the Utrecht School of the Arts in The Netherlands 1987-1993.
He has been living in Finland since 1994, where he was head of the jazz department at the conservatory in Kokkola from 1994 to 2002.
Since 2002 he has been living in Helsinki, working as a freelance composer, jazz pianist and conductor.
Hille’s compositional output includes music for symphony orchestra, three concertos for chamber orchestra, three concertos for big band, two string quartets and other chamber music, as well as film music.
Hille won the first prize at the international composition competition ‘Scrivere in Jazz’ 2008, in Italy.
Hille’s music for the feature film ‘Heartbeats’ (2010, dir. S. Cantell) was nominated for the Finnish film prize.
