Herliņš, Oskars - M - Latvia

Oskars Herlins created his first compositions in the middle of the 1990's using a personal computer with 8-bit sound system. Few years later Herlins started to play an electric guitar (self thought) and also took trumpet lessons. His later musical education includes Night Music School “Ridze” (composition studies with Maija Einfelde), Engelsholm Folk High School (electronic music composition studies with David Mondrup) and Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music (composition studies with Rolands Kronlaks), from which Herlins graduated with BA diploma in composition and with prestigious Talivaldis Kenins Award. As an Erasmus exchange student Herlins has studied composition at Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Pär Lindgren. Herlins also has participated in various workshops and master classes in Latvia, Lithuania and Germany under the guidance of such composers as Wolfgang Rihm, Michael Levinas, Mauro Lanza and many others. Apart from musical education Herlins has received BA and MA diplomas in philosophy from University of Latvia. Oskars Herlins has received prizes and awards for his compositions at various composition competitions, for example, Peteris Vasks Foundation Competition (Latvia), New Music Festival Arena Young composers competition (Latvia), Elektrochok 2009 Electronic music competition (Denmark) and others.
