Biography

Composer and researcher, Antonio de Sousa Dias (Lisboa, Portugal, 1959) divides his work between music composition, visual art, performance, research and teaching. He holds a Ph.D. in Musicology (Paris 8) and he taught at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (1987-2001), at the National Conservatory of Lisbon (1985-1987) and at Paris 8 University (2007-2009). Along with musical works for several groups and exploring various genres (instrumental, electroacoustic and mixed), music for film, series, documentary, animation and musical theatre, he currently participates with the group Les Phonogénistes in the projects Vertiges de l'espace and Vertiges de l'image.  His research in the area of music creation and virtual environments led him to the areas of multimedia and installation art: Natureza Morta | Stilleben (with Susana de Sousa Dias, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Lisbon 2010) and Tonnetz series (National Museum of Contemporary Art, Lisbon 2011) represent some of the artistic results.
